Irmas Grocery Haul and Zoodles
Yesterday I was talking about Irma’s Farm Stand where I love to get fruit and veggies.
Today I needed to make a run for groceries so I went to Irma’s and bought some fruit and veggies for juicing and smoothies.
1 bag Gala apples (approx 13), 3 cucumbers, 1 head romaine, 1 head leaf lettuce, 1 quart grape tomatoes, 1 pint Roma tomatoes, 1 pint Concord grapes, 6 peppers – 2 each of green, orange, and yellow, 1 watermelon.
The total for this haul is $23.25. There are 11 different items making the average cost per item $2.11. I just wanted to get a round about number to satisfy my curiosity in a cost per price.
From a previous trip to the farm stand, I still have: beets, pumpkin, acorn squash, butternut squash, some cherry tomatoes, and a zucchini.
I will be making zoodles with the zucchini. Zoodles are “noodles” made on a spiral slicer using a zucchini. The spiral slicer is a Spirooli and was purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I wanted a Paderno but didn’t know where I could go in-store to buy that particular brand so I went with the Spirooli. I have only used it once before and had made zoodles. They were very tasty! I added tomatoes and an Italian salad dressing, it was a low-fat dressing, and just mixed it all together.
I have not tried making my own dressing for the zoodles but I would like to try to do so, or just use the juice of a lemon or two and some spices.
This is a good YouTube video on how to use a spiral slicer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP-eOs2Ew2A
If you’ve made zoodles before, let me know what you added in with them.
This is my Day 3 of 31 Days of Juicing. It is part of the #write31days challenge. To read all the posts, come back to the first page where I’ll link up after I’ve posted.
