What started in a barn along Michigan’s Saginaw Bay in 1945 is now a major cheese producer, aging and packaging over five million pounds of cheese every year. While factory tours are available by appointment, many families stop in simply for the cheese shop experience. You’ll find a variety of cheeses, cheese spreads, and snacks like crackers and dips—plus a window into the production floor when activity allows.

We always made a point to stop by on our way Up North, especially when taking the scenic route. I prefer to avoid the freeway whenever I can (the Zilwaukee Bridge and I are not friends). That bridge became a symbol of one of the most important trips I ever made—one I’ll never regret. But every other time, we opted for the slower drive, stopping at Williams Cheese Company for a stretch break, snacks, and a little local flavor.
