The American Revolution Experience Michigan

Daughters of the American Revolution Event The American Revolution Experience

The American Revolution Experience is a traveling exhibit sponsored by the Battlefield Trust Foundation and the Daughters of the American Revolution. It invites visitors to explore the difficult choices faced by everyday people during the 1770s, as tensions with Great Britain continued to rise. Ordinary people were forced to decide whether to risk their lives and livelihoods in pursuit of liberty or remain loyal to the British Crown – often putting them at odds with neighbors, friends, and even family members.

The exhibit highlights a wide range of perspectives and lived experiences, including those of Patriots and Loyalists, Black and Indigenous individuals, and international allies. Rather than focusing solely on famous leaders and generals, it brings attention to the everyday people who shaped the era – drummer boys, mapmakers, soldiers, and civilians whose lives were deeply affected by the Revolution.

Through stories, artifacts, and historical context, The American Revolution Experience explores why people chose to fight, where they came from, where they served, and how the Revolution reshaped their lives. The exhibit will travel throughout the state of Michigan during the Semiquincentennial year, offering communities the opportunity to engage with this pivotal moment in history in a meaningful and personal way.
