History of REACH

REACH Homeschool Group was started in the fall of 1996 by the request of the Auburn Hills Library. For many years they fielded questions about home schooling from local residents. An on-going dilemma was not having an inclusive group to refer the people who request such. They asked a local homeschool Mom with ties to the library to start a group to help people connect. Since those small beginnings (7 families) REACH – Auburn Hills has grown to serving over 40 families each year. The group then expanded to two more locations. The first was in April 2001 in Ortonville and in October 2001 to Fenton. We then began a new chapter in May, 2004, in Royal Oak and surrounding South Oakland County areas. Running individual chapters requires a LOT of work and there wasn’t enough people in some of the areas to do this. What we have done now is to consolidate our leadership to form one leadership team for REACH-Oakland County. People are welcome to coordinate and organize activities and classes in their area and we will help promote and coordinate.
