Make Your Own Mini Coupon Binder Guide
Why a Mini Binder?
- Lightweight – Toss it in your grocery bag or purse without weighing yourself down.
- Compact – Fits nicely in your cart, on a store shelf, or even inside a reusable shopping bag when packing up.
- Easier to maintain – Less clutter means you’re more likely to actually use it.
What You’ll Need
- Mini Binder (I recommend the Staples Better Binder Mini)
- Plastic coupon sleeves in assorted sizes:
- 1-pocket (for store coupons or printables)
- 2-pocket, 3-pocket, 4-pocket, 6-pocket (for most manufacturer coupons)
- Tabs or index tabs for labeling categories and subcategories – (repositionable works best)
- Cardstock (cut in half) for dividers
- Mini loose-leaf paper (or cut and hole-punch regular size)
- Pen or pencil for lists and notes
Setting It Up
- Divide your binder into main sections using half-sheet cardstock dividers with big label tabs.
- Add subsections using sticky notes or smaller side tabs attached to the coupon sleeves.
- Clip coupons closely to save space. Just avoid cutting into the barcode.
- Fold coupons as needed to fit them into slots — even in the full-size binders, I had to do this.
- Add paper up front for grocery lists, reminders, and quick notes.

Before You Toss Expired Coupons…
Don’t! Some military families stationed overseas can still use them. Do an online search for “expired coupon donations for military” to find drop-off sites or mailing programs.

Build your binder from scratch:
Browse Red Garage Door’s eBay store for office supplies, plastic sleeves, and mini binders.
Or check out mini binders on Amazon — they have tons of colors and styles to match your organizing vibe. I prefer the Staples Better Binder Mini because of the durability.
I originally wrote this as an eBay Guide (9/19/2013). This revamped version brings it home – right where it belongs.
