Michigan is the #3 apple producer in the US. Discover how beautiful blossoms develop into apples, try your hand at our cider press, and discover what trees are doing in the fall on a hike. Enjoy a tart taste of Michigan cider.

Intro to Chemistry Red Oaks – Oct. 10; Wint – Oct. 16, 2024
Take a look into the world of chemistry. Learn chemistry basics through hands-on experiments.

Fossil Formation Red Oaks – Nov. 14; Wint – Nov. 20, 2024
Discover fossils beyond dinosaur bones! Michigan is lucky enough to have both a state fossil and a state rock that happens to be a fossil.
Investigate fossils found in Michigan and take part in a paleontological adventure.

Owl Pellets Aren’t Puke Red Oaks – Dec. 12; Wint – Dec. 18, 2024
Learn how owls are connected to other animals (and even plants) in the food web by dissecting an owl pellet.
American Sign Language interpretation will be available at the Wint program.

Naturalist for a Day Red Oaks – Jan. 9; Wint – Jan. 15, 2025
Do you love the outdoors? Are you chatty? If yes, then you may love a career as a naturalist! Learn about being a naturalist by getting hands-on and sampling a variety of tasks that naturalists perform.

Darwin’s Discoveries Red Oaks – Feb. 13; Wint – Feb. 19, 2025
Celebrate Darwin’s birth month with a naturalist. Learn about his greatest discoveries through hands-on exploration, role-playing and testing hypotheses.

Letterboxing Leprechauns Red Oaks – March 13; Wint – March 19, 2025
Enjoy the adventures of letterboxing as we solve clues to find the pot of gold in this interactive session of mischief and mayhem.

Homegrown Gardeners Red Oaks – April 10; Wint – April 16, 2025
Explore soil science, plant biology and gardening. Participants will create their own compost bins and use them for a soil science project. Connect to food webs, pollinators and various ecosystems.
American Sign Language interpretation will be available at the Red Oaks program.

Summer Safety and Survival Red Oaks – May 8; Wint – May 21, 2025
Feel confident about how to be safe during summer activities. Learn about Michigan’s hazardous plants, insects and animals – how to avoid a run-in with them and what to do if you encounter them.

Reading Nature’s Secret Signs Red Oaks – Sept. 11; Wint – Sept. 17, 2025
Embrace your inner Lewis and Clark by learning to read the hidden clues of nature. Is water nearby, are you heading north, whose tracks are those? Learn to answer these questions and more.

Essential Information:
• Each program is adapted for ages 6-9 and 10-13.
• Sessions run 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and are designed as drop-off programs for youth.
• All students are welcome, including those from a traditional homeschool, pod or virtual learning setting. A release form must be completed with registration. Cost: $10/session.

Registration Information:
• Preregistration with payment is required for homeschool programs. Refunds are issued only for extenuating circumstances.
